Meet the Administrators
Heather Kohler, Director
Heather has been a home school mom for 8 years. She married James in 2000 and they have 6 great kids. Abigail, Nathan, Caleb, Matthew, Benjamin and Zoey. She loves homeschooling for so many reasons, but the greatest reason is to spend time developing her children into who the Lord has created them to be. Her passion is to see others come to know the Lord and to encourage them to pursue Him and to live the abundant life He has provided for them.
A verse that has fueled her life for many years is Acts 16:31. "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household."
Knowing that the Lord has a plan not only for her, but for the entire family, is something that has inspired her to focus on family ministry and to encourage others to do the same. email Heather
Susan Runnion, Admin
Susan is a mom of 6 who began her homeschooling journey 8 years ago, as her oldest son approached kindergarten age. She and her husband decided to keep him home him because they didn’t want to put him in full-day kindergarten, and during this time Susan was also influenced by a book, For the Children’s Sake, by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. The Charlotte Mason approach presented in the book resonated and appealed to her. Although she would now consider herself an eclectic homeschooler, she still loves the Charlotte Mason ideals that children are people and that their minds deserve respect, of feeding their minds with living books, and the importance of exploring the beautiful world God has created.
Susan has been married to Jason for 14 years and they reside on an old farm in rural New Jersey with their 6 children: Alex-12, Ryan-10, Callie-9, Nate-8, Meg-6, and Luke-3. She enjoys cooking and baking, spending time outside taking walks, running, exploring nature, and just being with her family. She also has a heart for struggling learners. A verse she always comes back to as a source of encouragement is 2 Corinthians 12:9-11: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. email Sue
Michelle Scrivens, Admin
Michelle is wife to Chris, and mom to Erik and Jakob. They are 10 years apart, so it is like they are doing it all over again. What a blast. Chris and Michelle will be married for 25 years come December 2016. Chris is a pastor in Chester, NJ and they have been in this area since 2008. They started homeschooling Erik in 2002 and haven’t stopped, just as Erik was getting ready for high school Jake was ready for kindergarten. They are active in their church, community and homeschool group so there isn’t too much down time but when they get a chance to do something together they either get outside or settle in for a good TV show.
Erik, at 19, has moved to California to set up life, get his Personal Training certification, train for the 2020 Olympics (we all need a dream) and ultimately hopes to go to university there. Jake, 3rd grade, is enjoying being home and having the flexibility to spend time with dad when he has off, learn history and science from living books and expressing his God given talents without the confines of a class room. Michelle is active in her church and TLC and tries to balance that with working seasonally at an area farm and cleaning her house. Chris loves the outdoors and his motorcycle and when he needs to decompress you can either find him on his bike or in the woods.
One verse that they have hanging in their kitchen is: Romans 5:3-4 "We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope." email Michelle

"And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 email Jen
Kate Wood, Admin
Kate has been a student for life. Going to school was her joy growing up and she couldn't wait to be a teacher herself one day. After college, she taught French in a private elementary/middle school for 7 years, during which time she met and married her husband, Rick. When their first child was born, Kate was delighted to become a stay-at-home mom, her second lifetime dream. Once their fourth child was nearing school-age, Kate realized she would soon need to go back to the classroom, but God had another plan: stay at home with the kids and be their teacher. A perfect fit! She will always be thankful to God and to Rick for bringing that about.
Kate thought with her training and experience in teaching that homeschooling would be a snap, but the reality was that that first year (2006) was excruciating. In desperation, she sought help at the Midwest Homeschool Conference and there discovered some missing pieces about how to truly teach. Her delight now is teaching their 2 daughters (9th grade and 12th grade), cheering on their 2 older sons, (both students at the US Merchant Marine Academy, in Kings Point, NY: Class of 2017 and Class of 2019) and sharing tools of the teaching trade with anyone who will listen.
One of her favorite verses is "Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7 (MEV) email Kate
